Market Overview

• Production Outlook – JFFFL Perspective: The Alphonso mango season is progressing across key sourcing regions, with plucking activity already started in parts of the Konkan belt. Based on current field observations, the crop is expected to remain average season across the surveyed regions. The lower crop is mainly due to adverse weather conditions during the flowering and fruit-setting stages.
• The current Alphonso mango season has been negatively impacted by unfavourable weather conditions across surveyed regions. Temperatures dropped below 10°C during January and February, while the required range for flowering is normally 19°C to 24°C. This affected flowering and fruit setting. High humidity, cloudy conditions, and dew formation created fungal pressure during the flowering stage. Frequent changes between hot and cold weather further affected mango orchards.

Regional Overview

• Ratnagiri Region: In Ratnagiri, Alphonso mango production is estimated at around 35% compared to the normal season. The peak plucking period is expected from 20th April to 25th May. Current orchard observations indicate very limited fruit availability, with approximately 20 to 30 kg of fruit per tree in some orchards. Farmers have started plucking fruit and selling into the table fruit market.
• Sindhudurg Region: In Sindhudurg, Alphonso mango production is estimated at around 38% compared to the normal season. The peak plucking period is expected from 20th April to 25th May. Like Ratnagiri, the crop has been affected by low temperatures, high humidity, cloudy weather, dew formation, and fungal pressure during flowering. Farmers have started plucking fruit and selling into the table fruit market.
• Dharwad & Belgaum Region: In Dharwad and Belgaum, Alphonso mango production is estimated at around 40% compared to a normal season. The peak plucking period is expected from 20th April to 30th May. Flowering burn has been observed due to adverse weather, resulting in lower fruit availability on trees. Big-size fruit drop has also been reported due to frequent weather changes.
• South Karnataka Region: In South Karnataka, Alphonso mango production is estimated at around 38% compared to a normal season. The peak plucking period is expected from 20th April to 25th May. Some farmers have observed good fruit in limited cases; however, several orchards show empty trees with very limited fruit availability. In this region, farmers have not yet started plucking table fruit. Some farmers are also shifting from mango cultivation to supari/betel nut.

Industry Implications

• Overall Crop Health: The Alphonso mango crop is expected to remain significantly below the normal season across the surveyed regions. Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are showing limited availability, while Dharwad, Belgaum, Haveri, and Davangere are also reporting reduced fruit setting and low orchard availability.
• Supply Planning Trends: Crop availability is expected to remain limited in the short term due to lower crop estimates across all surveyed regions. Customers are encouraged to plan requirements by mid-May and maintain regular communication with the JFFFL sales team for updated availability.
• Field & Quality Status: The main field-level concerns include low temperatures during the flowering period, high humidity, cloudy weather, dew conditions, fungal pressure, flowering burn, and fruit drop. These factors have reduced fruit availability across surveyed orchards. In some locations, limited good fruit has been observed, but overall tree load remains low.
• Conclusion: The Alphonso mango season presents an average crop outlook across the surveyed regions. The Konkan belt has started plucking activity, while parts of Karnataka are moving towards the peak plucking window.
